Petra, Jordan
I’m embarrassed to share that I didn’t know what Petra was until I met my now husband Sam. He was baffled that I wasn’t aware of such a beautiful majestic wonder. 5 years later I stood in front of the treasury. We arrived by bus and opted to walk the 1.5 KM to the Treasury. The walk was amazing as we were able to take our time and see many carvings in the stone, take a close look at the water system and take many pictures! Other options were to ride a horse or a carriage to the Treasury. I’m glad we took our time and walked. Walking also allowed…

The Excitement of planning!
It is such fun planning the next trip. Booking the flights, making arrangements for lodging and planning the day to day activities. When we travel we love to take the trains and the local public transportation. Often it is faster and much cheaper. Please don’t get caught up in private transport as drivers are not always honest with fares. Many locations do have fares posted and it’s always good to ensure that the fare is agreed upon before you accept the ride! We experienced a driver who tried to convince us to allow him to drive us for 120 euros an hour and a half when the train was an…

Wadi Rum, Jordan
Leaving Aman, we drove down the Desert Highway towards Wadi Rum. It was a long drive and it was broken up with a stop for lunch. The lunch stop was a buffet of rice, salad and of course other middle eastern food. It also contained a large gift shop where I picked out one item (an oil lamp) that happened to be authentic and was priced at $3000 USD! It did not come home with us that day! I did, however, enjoy another delicious Turkish coffee, mmmmm! We were given Keffiyeh scarves when we crossed into Jordan. Many of the local people in Jordan helped us tie our Keffiyeh scarves,…

Dempster Highway, Yukon
One of my favourite things while visiting the Yukon was driving up the Dempster Highway to Tombstone Territorial Park. Our original plan was to take the highway to Eagle Plains and reach the rim of the arctic circle. Unfortunately, the rain altered this plan for us as we were in a rented RV (the only way to travel around the Yukon in my opinion) and didn’t have the proper supplies (extra tires, satellite phone). Travelling north on the gravel highway in the rain was slow, our max. speed was close to 35KM per hour. There was so much mud and potholes! We were able to stop a few times to…

Hiking the Inca Trail – DAY 4
We woke at 3:30, and quickly vacated our tents and ate breakfast. We travelled for about 10 mins from base camp in the dark to the checkpoint. This checkpoint was an admission gate to Machu Picchu which opens at 5:30 am, so we waited. Our group at first walked together slowly, as one group member had badly twisted her ankle. After several groups passed us, many of our own group members started to move ahead as well. It wasn’t a far walk to reach the Sun Gate however the trail was surprisingly thin and did require a lot of attention, which is likely why they do not permit hikers on…
